Modes: TCI, TIVA, mL/hr and dose rate

The Agilia SP TIVA syringe pump is able to operate in many different modes to satisfy your clinical needs.

The device itself can hold up to 19 individually customised Profiles.

If you have connected your devices via WiFi to the Centerium server then Profile updates can be done wirelessly.

To jump quickly to details about a particular mode select an option below:

What is a Profile?

Essentially a Profile is a combination of a device configuration and a drug library.

The configuration is mandatory for a Profile and contains settings such as pressure limits, how the device will behave towards the end of an infusion, the volume of alerts and alarms and many other customisable options.

A drug library is optional for each profile.  If included it can contain TCI protocols, TIVA protocols or general infusion protocols.

TCI mode

If you require a TCI protocol Profile you can pick and choose which protocols you add to this Profile.  The available options are:

The Agilia SP TIVA syringe pump offers the ability to customise each TCI protocol allowing for faster start-up time by pre-defining your own concentrations and starting values if required.

The options for configuring the TCI protocols are shown below.

If required up to 5 dilutions/concentrations can be specified for each TCI protocol with the initial dilution being the first shown on the device when programming.

Please review the Agilia SP TIVA TCI input template by clicking HERE if you wish to know more about customisation of TCI protocols.

It should be noted that when using a TCI protocol the bolus key will be DISABLED.  This is a function of the TCI algorithm itself.

If you do need to give a bolus during a TCI infusion the Agilia SP TIVA will allow this by means of a manual bolus push.  Details on how this can be achieved can be found HERE.

The videos below show the programming of both an adult TCI protocol and a paediatric TCI protocol (Paedfusor and Kataria) to give you an idea of the workflow on the device.

TIVA mode

Total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) is a technique of general anesthesia which uses a combination of agents given exclusively by the intravenous route without the use of inhalation agents (Gas Anesthesia).

On the Agilia SP TIVA, a TIVA protocol, therefore, is a drug protocol involving a drug that is used for general anaesthesia such as Propofol or Remifentanil.

TCI can be thought of as a more specialised form of TIVA involving the use of pre-determined algorithms.

TIVA drug protocols can be created using the Vigilant Master Med drug error reduction software and if required should be discussed with your local Fresenius Kabi Account Manager or Clinical Support Specialist.

The template to create your own TIVA drug protocols can be found HERE.

The video below shows the programming of a TIVA drug protocol for Alfentanil in microg/kg/min to give you an idea of the workflow on the device.

Dose rate mode

If required you can set up your own dose rate infusions.

To do this use Drug X (dose) from within a Profile.

NOTE Drug X (dose) may not be enabled for your Profile.  This is a configurable option set when your data set for the device is finalised.

If Drug X (dose) is not visible within your Profile and you require it to be so please contact your local Fresenius Kabi Account Manager or Clinical Support Specialist.

The video below shows the programming of a Drug X (dose) infusion to give you an idea of the workflow on the device.  An induction dose has also been used in this example.

mL/hr mode

If required you can set up your own mL/hr infusions.

To do this use Drug X (mL/h) from within a Profile.

NOTE Drug X (mL/h) may not be enabled for your Profile.  This is a configurable option set when your data set for the device is finalised.

If Drug X (mL/h) is not visible within your Profile and you require it to be so please contact your local Fresenius Kabi Account Manager or Clinical Support Specialist.

Direct or programmed bolus

This video guide for the Agilia SP TIVA infusion pump will show you how to:

  • give a direct bolus

  • change settings for a programmed bolus

  • give a programmed bolus
